Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ About Balloon Decorations

What does a balloon arch cost? +

A professional balloon arch starts at 249 Euro including delivery and setup. The exact price depends on the size, design, and number of colours. A simple standard arch is cheaper than a large, organic arch with multiple colours and sizes. Contact us for a personalised quote.

How long does a balloon arch last? +

An air-filled balloon arch typically lasts 3 to 7 days indoors, sometimes even up to 14 days. Outdoors, the lifespan is reduced to 1 to 3 days due to sun, wind, and temperature fluctuations. We recommend scheduling the setup as close to the event day as possible.

What different types of balloon decorations are there? +

The main types are: balloon garlands (organic or classic designs), balloon arches (as entrances or photo backdrops), balloon walls (flat backgrounds), ceiling balloons (floating ceiling installations), balloon columns (freestanding columns), and custom balloon sculptures. In addition, there are helium arrangements and table decorations.

Are balloon arches still in fashion? +

Yes, balloon arches are absolutely on trend! Organic balloon arches with varying balloon sizes and natural accents such as flowers or eucalyptus are particularly popular at the moment. Balloon decoration has been booming for years – from weddings and corporate events to Instagram-worthy photo spots.

What are the latest trends in balloon decorations? +

Current trends include: organic designs with varying balloon sizes and natural materials, monochrome colour palettes in nude and earth tones, XXL statement balloons (90 cm), neon and chrome balloons for modern events, sustainable decorations with biodegradable materials, and interactive installations such as balloon walls for social media content.

How many balloons do you need for a balloon arch? +

For an organic balloon arch, you need approximately 20 to 30 balloons per metre in various sizes. A standard entrance arch (approx. 2.5m x 3m) requires about 100 to 150 balloons. For particularly dense, opulent designs, it can be 200 balloons or more.

Is it cheaper to make a balloon arch yourself? +

DIY saves up to 60-70% of the cost but requires several hours of work, the right equipment (balloon pump, strip, glue dots), and practice. The result rarely matches professional quality. Professional decorators guarantee a flawless result, handle setup and takedown, and save you stress on the day of the event.

How long does a balloon arch last without helium? +

Air-filled balloon arches last significantly longer than helium variants: 5 to 14 days indoors. This is because air diffuses through the balloon skin more slowly than helium. Most professional balloon arches are therefore filled with air and attached to a frame or strip.

What can you do with balloons? +

The possibilities are endless: decorative garlands and arches, photo backgrounds and social media backdrops, ceiling installations and floating arrangements, balloon walls and balloon sculptures, table decorations and centrepieces, number and letter balloons, gender reveal surprises, and even balloon drops at midnight or for countdowns.

What is balloon modelling? +

Balloon modelling (also known as balloon art or balloon twisting) refers to the technique of shaping special modelling balloons into figures, animals, and sculptures. In the events industry, the term also encompasses the professional creation of balloon decorations such as garlands, arches, and installations.

Which type of balloon is best for decoration? +

For professional decorations, we mainly use high-quality professional-grade latex balloons in various sizes (12 cm to 90 cm). For floating arrangements, foil balloons are used as they last longer. Chrome and confetti balloons add special accents.

What are the three types of balloons? +

The three main types are: 1. Latex balloons – made from natural rubber, biodegradable, available in hundreds of colours and sizes, ideal for garlands and arches. 2. Foil balloons (Mylar) – metallic and shiny, hold helium for weeks, available as numbers, letters, and character shapes. 3. Modelling balloons – long and thin, specially designed for balloon animals and sculptures.

How long does it take to set up a balloon arch? +

A simple balloon arch takes 1 to 2 hours to set up. Large, organic arches with multiple colours and sizes require 2 to 4 hours. Very elaborate installations with integrated flowers or lights can take up to 6 hours. We plan the setup so that everything is ready in time for your event.

Can you make a balloon arch without helium? +

Yes, most professional balloon arches are actually built without helium! Air-filled balloons are attached to a balloon strip or frame. This has many advantages: longer lifespan, lower costs, and the balloons do not deflate. Helium is only needed for free-floating arrangements.

Can I set up my balloon arch the evening before? +

Yes, this is perfectly fine for air-filled balloon arches. Indoors, you can even set up the arch 2 to 3 days beforehand. However, we recommend setting up no more than one day in advance so that the decoration looks fresh and plump on the day of the event. For helium decorations, setup should be done on the same day.

What can I use instead of a balloon arch? +

Alternatives to the classic balloon arch include: balloon garlands (more flexible and affordable), balloon walls (ideal as a photo backdrop), balloon columns (more space-saving), flower walls with balloon accents, or free-floating helium arrangements. We are happy to advise you on which alternative best suits your event and budget.

What do balloons symbolise? +

Balloons universally symbolise joy, lightness, and celebration. They represent the desire to capture moments and are associated with festivities and happy occasions worldwide. In decoration, they convey a festive and elegant atmosphere – their colours carry different emotions.

What is the psychology behind balloons? +

Balloons trigger positive emotions: their round, soft shape is perceived as friendly and inviting. Bold colours boost mood, while pastel tones have a calming effect. The floating of helium balloons creates a feeling of lightness and carefreeness. Psychologically, balloons remind many people of carefree childhood days.

What do 7 balloons symbolise? +

The number 7 is considered a lucky number in many cultures. Seven balloons are therefore often used as a symbol of good luck at celebrations. In balloon decoration, a group of 7 balloons represents perfection and completeness. At birthdays, they often mark the age or represent life stages.

What do black balloons mean? +

Black balloons stand for elegance, style, and sophistication. They are popular at themed parties, New Year's Eve, Halloween, and elegant gala events. Combined with gold or silver, they create a luxurious atmosphere. At memorial services, black balloons can also symbolise mourning and respect.

What alternatives are there to balloons? +

Alternatives to balloon decoration include: paper flowers and pompoms, lanterns and fairy lights, fabric draping, dried flower arrangements, LED light installations, and paper fans or garlands. However, we recommend combining them: balloon decorations complemented with flowers or lights achieve the most impressive effect.

What original ideas are there for balloons? +

Original ideas: a balloon wall as an Instagram backdrop with an integrated neon sign, a balloon ceiling with hundreds of floating balloons, an organic garland as banister decoration, balloon sculptures in animal shapes, a gender reveal with an exploding confetti balloon, XXL number balloons for birthdays, and personalised balloons with messages or photos inside.

What ideas are there for themed balloon decorations? +

Popular themes: Safari (green, gold, animal balloons), Underwater World (blue, turquoise, fish shapes), Rainbow (colourful gradients), Fairy Tale/Princess (pink, gold, crowns), Space (dark blue, silver, star shapes), Vintage (pastel tones, flowers), Tropical (pink, green, palm leaves), and Jungle (shades of green, animal motifs).

What is balloon decoration called? +

Professional balloon decoration is also referred to as balloon art, balloon styling, or event decoration. In the industry, the terms balloon styling or balloon design are used. The professionals are called balloon artists, balloon decorators, or balloon stylists. For elaborate installations, the term balloon installations is used.

What is HI-FLOAT? +

HI-FLOAT is a liquid plastic-based gel that is applied inside latex balloons before they are filled with helium. It forms a protective layer inside the balloon and significantly slows the escape of helium. As a result, treated latex balloons float up to 25 times longer – instead of 10-12 hours, they can float for up to 2 weeks.

What is balloon gel? +

Balloon gel is another name for HI-FLOAT or similar products that extend the floating time of helium balloons. The gel is applied inside the balloon before filling and forms a seal that prevents helium from escaping quickly. It is non-toxic and environmentally friendly.

How can I make a balloon garland myself? +

For a DIY balloon garland you need: balloons in various sizes and colours, a balloon strip (hole tape), an electric balloon pump, glue dots, and fishing line for attachment. Inflate the balloons in various sizes, insert them into the strip, and fill gaps with small balloons. A 2-metre section takes approximately 1-2 hours.

How long does it take to make a balloon garland? +

For a beginner, a 2-metre garland takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Professionals complete it in 30 to 45 minutes. Larger installations of 5 to 10 metres take even professionals 2 to 4 hours. Most of the time is spent inflating and arranging the balloons – an electric pump saves a lot of time.

What materials do I need to make a balloon arch? +

Basic materials for a DIY balloon arch: latex balloons in various sizes (5", 11", 18"), a balloon strip (hole tape) or PVC pipe as a frame, an electric balloon pump, glue dots for fixing, fishing line and command strips for attachment. Optional: a balloon stand with an arch frame or a metal frame for freestanding arches.

What do balloons symbolise at a birthday? +

At birthdays, balloons symbolise joy, festivity, and the celebration of life. Number balloons mark the age reached as a proud milestone. Colourful balloons represent the diversity of life and wishes for the coming year. Floating helium balloons symbolise lightness and carefreeness.

What is the spiritual meaning of balloons? +

Spiritually, balloons represent letting go and ascension. A rising balloon symbolises wishes and hopes sent up to the sky. In many cultures, balloons are released at memorial services as a symbol of the soul ascending. The round shape represents wholeness and perfection.

What creative ideas are there for balloon table decorations? +

Creative table decoration ideas: mini balloon garlands as table runners, floating helium balloons with ribbons and weights, balloon centrepieces in vases with confetti, number or letter balloons as place cards, balloons with LED lights for evening events, and small balloon clusters with integrated flowers.

Is it allowed to release balloons at a funeral? +

In principle, yes – balloons at funeral services are a loving farewell ritual and are appreciated by many families. However, environmental advocates advise against releasing latex balloons into the air as they can endanger animals and the environment. Beautiful alternatives include: using balloons as on-site decoration, biodegradable soap bubbles, or releasing butterflies.

What happens to a balloon in the sun? +

Direct sunlight is the biggest enemy of balloon decorations. UV radiation makes the latex brittle, and the heat causes the air inside to expand – both lead to faster bursting. A balloon in direct sunlight can burst within just 1-2 hours. For outdoor events, we recommend shaded areas and light, matte balloon colours.

What can you put in balloons to make them last longer? +

For longer lifespan, we recommend: HI-FLOAT gel (extends helium floating time significantly), or simply air instead of helium (lasts 5-14 days instead of 10 hours). Latex balloons can also be sealed externally with acrylic spray. Most importantly: use quality balloons and avoid heat, sunlight, and sharp edges.

Is it cheaper to make or buy a balloon garland? +

DIY is cheaper: materials for 2 metres cost approximately 20-40 Euro. A professional 2-metre garland costs approximately 70-100 Euro. However, for DIY you need 1.5-2 hours, equipment, and practice. With a professional garland, you get perfect quality, setup and takedown included, and can focus on your event.

What is better, balloon gas or helium? +

Balloon gas and helium are the same thing – "balloon gas" is simply the colloquial term for helium used to fill balloons. There is no difference in quality. Helium is a noble gas that is lighter than air and makes balloons float. Industrial helium and balloon helium differ only in purity level.

How long does balloon art last? +

The lifespan depends on the type of decoration: air-filled garlands and arches indoors last 5-14 days. Helium balloons (latex) float for 10-24 hours, with HI-FLOAT up to 2 weeks. Foil balloons with helium last 2-4 weeks. Outdoors, the lifespan is reduced to 1-3 days.

How do you organise a memorial with a balloon release? +

At a balloon release ceremony, guests receive white or light-coloured balloons, optionally write a message on cards, and release the balloons together on a signal. For environmental reasons, we recommend instead a ceremony with balloons as decoration or biodegradable alternatives such as soap bubbles or flower petals.

How much do balloon artists earn? +

Professional balloon artists in Germany earn between 2,500 and 5,000 Euro per month as employees, depending on experience and region, or 50-150 Euro per hour as self-employed. Successful balloon decorators with their own business and a good order book can earn significantly more. The profession requires creative talent, craftsmanship, and business acumen.

Which string is best for tying balloons? +

Balloon ribbon (curling ribbon) made of polypropylene is best – it can be curled and looks decorative. For garlands, transparent fishing line (nylon thread) is used as it is almost invisible. For heavy installations, we recommend sturdy textile ribbon. Cotton thread is a sustainable alternative for smaller decorations.

What is a balloon arch? +

A balloon arch is an arch-shaped decoration made from many balloons in various sizes and colours. It serves as an eye-catcher at entrances, as a photo backdrop, or as a frame for podiums and candy bars. Modern organic balloon arches use different balloon sizes for a natural, flowing look and are often complemented with flowers or greenery.

Is a balloon arch worth it? +

Yes, a balloon arch is one of the most impactful decorations with the best value for money. It draws all eyes, serves as the perfect photo background, and immediately creates a festive atmosphere. Especially for weddings, birthdays, and corporate events, a balloon arch is a true highlight that delights guests.

Does a balloon arch stay up overnight? +

Yes, an air-filled balloon arch stays up overnight without any problems and still looks perfect the next day. Indoors, balloon arches last 5 to 14 days. Important: avoid direct sunlight or strong temperature fluctuations. With helium decorations, the balloons may lose some height overnight.

How do you store a balloon arch? +

A pre-made balloon arch should be stored at a constant room temperature (18-22°C). Avoid direct sunlight, proximity to heaters, and sharp edges. It is best to lay the arch loosely on the floor and cover it with a light cloth. Generally, however, we recommend setting up only on the day of the event or at most one day beforehand.

Is it difficult to make a balloon arch yourself? +

A simple balloon arch with a balloon strip is manageable for beginners but requires practice and 2-3 hours of time. The challenge lies in inflating different sizes evenly and arranging them harmoniously. Professional organic arches are significantly more difficult and require experience. For a perfect result at important events, we recommend hiring a professional.

Are 40 balloons enough for an arch? +

For a small table balloon arch or mini arch, 40 balloons are sufficient. For a walk-through balloon arch (approx. 2.5m x 3m), you need at least 100-150 balloons in various sizes. The denser and more opulent the arch should be, the more balloons are needed. Contact us for an exact calculation.

Is it better to fill balloons with air or helium? +

It depends on the purpose: air is cheaper, lasts 5-14 days, and is perfect for garlands, arches, and wall decorations. Helium makes balloons float but only lasts 10-24 hours (latex) or 2-4 weeks (foil). For most decorations, we recommend air with a frame – cheaper, longer-lasting, and just as impressive.

What alternatives are there to helium for balloons? +

Air is the best alternative to helium! Air-filled balloons on balloon strips, frames, or columns look just as great and last significantly longer. Further options: LED balloons for lighting effects, foil balloons on sticks, or transparent balloons with confetti. The trend is clearly towards air-filled installations – better for the budget and the environment.

How much does a balloon garland cost? +

A professional balloon garland costs from approximately 35 Euro per metre. The price varies depending on density, number of colours, and special requests (flowers, lights, chrome balloons). A 2-metre garland costs approximately 70-100 Euro, a 5-metre installation 175-250 Euro. Delivery and setup are included in the price.

What mistakes are commonly made when making balloon garlands? +

The most common mistakes: inflating all balloons to the same size (a mix of 3-4 sizes looks better), using too few balloons (at least 20 per metre), stretching the strip too tightly, not filling gaps with small 5-inch balloons, not using glue dots for fixing, and not setting up the arch in time before the event. Professionals avoid all these mistakes.

How many balloons do you need for a balloon garland? +

You need 20 to 30 balloons per metre of garland in various sizes. For 2 metres: approximately 50-60 balloons, for 5 metres: approximately 100-150 balloons. Use at least 3 different sizes (5", 11", 16") for an organic look. The denser the garland, the more balloons are needed.

How do you attach a balloon garland? +

Balloon garlands can be attached in various ways: with command strips on smooth walls, with fishing line on hooks or nails, with cable ties on railings or poles, with special self-adhesive balloon hooks on ceilings. Important: consider the weight – a garland can weigh 2-5 kg. At rented venues, always use residue-free attachment methods.

What do I need for a balloon garland? +

Basic equipment: latex balloons in various sizes (5", 11", 16") and colours, balloon strip (hole tape), electric balloon pump (essential!), glue dots, fishing line and attachment materials (command strips or hooks). Optional: flowers, eucalyptus, fairy lights, or chrome balloons for special accents.

How do balloons stick to the wall? +

The best ways to attach balloons to the wall are: glue dots – removable without residue, command strips – for heavy installations, double-sided tape – affordable but may leave marks, or self-adhesive balloon hooks. For rental properties and event venues, we always recommend residue-free glue dots.

How do I attach balloons to the ceiling? +

Three methods: 1. Helium balloons float to the ceiling on their own – secure with ribbon and a weight on the floor. 2. Stick air-filled balloons directly to the ceiling with glue dots – simple but time-consuming. 3. Stretch transparent fishing line and attach balloons to it – ideal for floating cloud effects. We handle ceiling installations professionally and safely.

Why do people spray hairspray on balloons? +

Hairspray can form a light protective layer on latex balloons and protect them from static charge, so they attract less dust and hair. However, the effect on lifespan is minimal. For professional decorations, we instead use HI-FLOAT for helium balloons and high-quality balloons that last longer naturally.

Why should you not release balloons? +

Releasing balloons harms the environment: they land in nature where animals can mistake them for food and choke on them. Even biodegradable latex balloons take months to decompose. Ribbons and closures are particularly dangerous. Beautiful alternatives: soap bubbles, flower petals, paper lanterns, or using balloons as stationary decoration.

How long do inflated balloons stay looking good? +

Air-filled latex balloons remain plump and attractive indoors for 5-14 days. After a few days, they slowly begin to shrink and may become duller. Helium balloons (latex) look perfect for approximately 10-12 hours. Foil balloons last for weeks. For optimal results: store balloons in a cool place away from sunlight.

Do normal balloons lose air overnight? +

No, high-quality latex balloons only lose a minimal amount of volume overnight – the difference is barely visible. Over several days, they slowly shrink as air diffuses through the latex material. Helium balloons lose gas more quickly. For multi-day events, we recommend air-filled decorations that still look perfect after days.

Is it legal to release helium balloons? +

In Germany, there is no nationwide ban, but many municipalities have prohibited or restricted the release of balloons. In nature reserves and near airports, it is generally forbidden. For environmental reasons, we also advise against it. Instead, we offer beautiful stationary decorations that are just as impressive.

How long does a balloon take to decompose? +

A latex balloon made from natural rubber takes approximately 6 months to 4 years to fully decompose under ideal conditions – similar to an oak leaf. Foil balloons (Mylar), on the other hand, hardly decompose at all and remain in the environment for decades. Therefore: never release balloons into nature and dispose of them properly in general waste after the event.

How much does it cost to fill a balloon with helium? +

With us, filling latex balloons with helium costs from 2.50 Euro per balloon including ribbon and weight. Foil balloons from 5 Euro depending on size. For larger orders, we offer volume discounts. The price includes high-quality branded balloons and HI-FLOAT treatment for extended floating time.

Which pen is best for writing on balloons? +

Permanent paint markers with a fine tip or special balloon pens work best. Important: inflate the balloon first and then write on it so the writing does not distort. Metallic and chalk markers on dark balloons create a particularly elegant effect. Regular felt-tip pens can damage the latex.

Can you paint balloons? +

Yes, balloons can be painted with special balloon paints, acrylic paint, or permanent markers. Important: only paint inflated balloons, use water-based paints (solvent-based ones can damage the latex), and let the paint dry before touching. For elaborate designs, we offer personalised balloons with professional printing.

How can you customise balloon colours? +

Custom colour design is possible through: painted balloons with acrylic paint or markers, professional balloon printing with logos or text, combining different-coloured balloons into unique colour gradients, confetti-filled transparent balloons in desired colours, or chrome and metallic balloons for special effects. We are happy to advise you on over 50 available balloon colours.

Can I fill helium balloons a day in advance? +

With standard latex balloons, this is risky – they lose significant floating power overnight. With HI-FLOAT treatment, however, latex balloons can be filled 2-3 days in advance. Foil balloons last for weeks and can be filled days ahead without any problems. We recommend having helium latex balloons filled on the day of the event.

What do you call a balloon artist? +

Professional balloon artists are referred to by various titles depending on their specialisation: Balloon Artist (general), Balloon Decorator or Balloon Stylist (for event decoration), Balloon Twister (for modelling balloons and figures), or Balloon Designer (for creative installations). Internationally, the term "Certified Balloon Artist" (CBA) has become established as a qualification standard.

What occasions can you decorate with balloons? +

Balloon decorations suit virtually any occasion: weddings, birthdays, baby showers, gender reveal parties, christenings, communions, confirmations, corporate events, trade fairs, shop openings, anniversaries, graduation parties, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, New Year's Eve, carnival, Halloween, Easter, Christmas and many more. We also offer bespoke decorations for memorial services, influencer events and photo shoots. Get in touch – we'll make any occasion special!
